Surgeon jailed for holding knife to taxi driver's throat

A Darwin surgeon who held a knife to the throat of a taxi driver in a road-rage incident has received a jail sentence, but will be allowed to spend it in home detention.

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Karthik Thangaraj, who appeared in court in handcuffs, was described by his lawyer, Peter Maley, as someone with a strong work ethic and "caring bedside manner".
